Invented in Switzerland, and way late making it to my table, this cook stove, if you want to call it that, is fantastic. Most people use it for parties. We do, too, but we cook on it 2-4 times a week. The name shouts, "Cheese," but we don't eat much cheese and when we do it is veggie cheese. In fact, the only meat we eat is wild 'caught in US' seafood. This cooks great shrimp! We also buy lobster tales and remove the shell and cut into pieces and cook. Salmon is mouth watering. Veggies are great on the grill. You can use the trays for heating bread, or crisping cooked veggies, or just warming food that is getting cold. The stone looks frightful after cooking a lot of food but let is sit overnight, run hot water over top, use a soft sponge, and it sparkles. We have used this to cook things like thinly slice sweet potatoes, shiitake mushrooms, left over corn on cob that we cut off and lightly fry. In fact, it turns leftovers into fun meals. You are limited only by your imagination. When I read you could buy another top for eggs, pancakes, and crepes, I ordered one, and it, too, is amazing. We don't eat store bought eggs-we get them from a friend who has pet chickens that are never killed, and it fries up perfect eggs. Pancakes are yummy and the crepes are light. We throw our veggie sausages in the trays to cook, and if we have leftover broiled potatoes we cut them up and cook on top on in tray. The most amazing thing about both cooking surfaces is you don't have grease to clean up. No splatter! Ever. And it is virtually smokeless. We have a smoke detector over the table where we use the raclette and it has not set it off once. Now, what to know is why no one has not made a regular kitchen stovetop that cooks with this. I would buy a new stove in a jiffy!

I have been wanting to buy a Raclette grill for a while now but I was hesitant because I did not quite understand if the Swissmar brand was worth the extra money. After using the Raclette grill now twice, I am glad I opted for Swissmar. The Raclette grill works great. The little pans are easy to use and clean, their handle does not get hot but the cheese melts perfectly. I am particularly pleased with the cast-iron grill top. It heats up very well and cooks meats and vegetables in no time. Most importantly, the cast iron top as well as the rest of the the Raclette grill are easy to clean and the electrical cord has a good length which means I did not have to use an extension cord. Overall two thumbs up.

This is such a fun way to entertain, or just dine as an older couple, chatting instead of eating and watching TV! I do not see the need to preheat in the oven. I plug it in when I start the baby potatoes in cold water on the stove top. By the time potatoes are done, stone is plenty hot to cook steak, chicken, salmon, shrimp, pork, veggies, whatever. I slice the proteins and veggies to about 1/4 to 1/3 of an inch. Cooks fast, so if you want rare, be quick! I had raclette about 50 years ago when visiting Switzerland. Never thought about it again until I saw it on Pinterest...rang a bell and just had to have one. We eat less, chat more, and just have a great meal and a great time with friends!

Very happy with it!. I happened to experience a raclette get together in Europe and loved it. I thought about bringing a round one from Paris, but I was able to find this one here in Amazon. What I love is that it holds a lot, the cheese trays are small but enough for 8 people, the power control is awesome, the one I saw in Europe had to be disconnected from the wall, so this one is better, you can lower the heat or crank it up if you want to. It is easy to clean, it heats up very fast, the two sides can be used, but I have only used one side for meats. You can basically cook anything you want, fruits, vegetables, cold meats, I even grilled small pieces of meat. My family loves it! The hardest thing is to find raclette cheese but some supermarket cheeses will do the work if you are not too picky!

Our Exchange daughter from Switzerland introduced us to this great social way of enjoying a family meal. We have had more fun sharing this with our friends who now they want to get their own Raclette. What has turned out to be amazing is we use it for more than what it was intended for; it's a great way to just keep our meals on it as a warming tray. Learning creative ways to use it has added more fun into our meal times. Not sure what we did without this little appliance in our lives.

I already own one of these and knew the quality, durability and reliability of this product. I bought this as a gift for some dear friends. -- they had never been at a raclette party before so after inviting them to one, they were shocked to realize that they were going home with one of their own for Christmas! Each time I've used my raclette grill over the years, it STILL brings the same amount of joy and fun to everyone. And, It still works perfectly. Some electric 'grills' or other small appliances heating elements break down after time. Not this one --- it's a workhorse! It's so fun to spend time with friends and family, all sitting around, eating/talking/visiting/laughing and even trying new ways of grilling and combing foods.

We love our raclette! We serve ours with raclette and port salut cheese, colored bell peppers, leeks, figs, thinly sliced bread, small par-boiled potatoes. Sometimes we'll do thinly sliced sirloin and shrimp, that works really well. We actually have 2 of them and we'll have a party every other month or so. The 2 grills and and a fondue going is usually enough to serve about 10-12 people (going the whole time). The only drawback is that the house gets smokey. But it's a super fun dinner party. When my brother heard I was having one he said "just make sure you don't have a key party". He's kind of a dork. My son chose to have raclette for his birthday party. What you see in the picture is kids having fun and willingly eating vegetables and fruit.

I did a lot of reading reviews and contacted Swissmar KF-77046 Classic 8 Person Raclette. They were very polite and answered my many questions through several emails. Definitely Pleased that I ordered the cast iron grill instead of the cast aluminum or granite grill, like having the raised sides and the scored top to give items a definite grill look, and easy to clean. I have only had 3 people so don't know how 8 people could work around the trays? We have used it 3 times and each time is another experience of creating a mixture of veg/meats/cheeses together in the trays. You won't be disappointed.

This provides a fabulous dining experience. We got this as a gift 10-15 years ago and it has become one of our favorite dining experiences both as a family and with friends. This is not definitely a quick meal. While some might consider that dinner takes less than 10 minutes to consume a negative, my family appreciates that while we all “cook” our own food, we get a chance to talk. Even my teenagers like raclette night. This is indoor grilling so we do this in the colder months of the year. Vegetables take a long time so we microwave them to reduce grilling time. For the young, we cut up hot dogs, roll up beef or chicken balls while for the adults we might have chicken, beef, tuna, shrimp, scallop, pork or all the above. Allowing kids to pick what they want makes it a fun experience for them and eliminates the “I do not like or want that” from the discussion. While we do not normally have 8 guests, the 8 trays does allows for a dinner party for eight. Provide a range of cheeses from mild to strong depending upon your guests. I have replaced the initial metal top grill with the granite top. I would recommend the granite top as it is easier to clean.

I have Swiss heritage and have wanted to try the raclette as a salute to my ancestors. So, for our wedding anniversary, we bought the Swissmar KF-77040. We've had great fun using it. We love the adjustable temperature and easy cleanup. This one has the cast iron grill. Not much different from my cast iron skillets. For our first time out, we did a traditional raclette meal of potatoes, bread and cheese, but added some surf and turf, Second outing was mini-hamburgers, sausages and hotdogs. Cooked to perfection. This last time we ate Tex-Mex--fajitas, tacos and burritos. I used the tray to make a mini-enchilada dish and a Frito chili pie. Going again in two weeks with a guest at our table--surf and turf it is! Everything we've tried has turned out wonderful. So much so, in fact, we're probably going to buy another one so we can cook on both sides at the same time.
