Seriously. In her work across Canada and the US, child psychologist Jody Carrington has met hundreds of kids, families, and their support systems. Regardless of where she’s traveled or the specific circumstances of these encounters, the message she’s received from concerned parents and educators has been the same: Our kids are okay only if those of us trying to support them are okay.During a child’s development, educators become a crucial connection point, with the potential to make a huge impact on a student’s well-being. But are the educators okay? Jody Carrington believes that most great educators want to make a difference. However, many educators are finding it more and more difficult "these days" to love what they do. It's time we did a better job of looking after them first. Plain and simple. This book is for those who work in educational settings: our teachers, bus drivers, administrators, educational assistants, librarians, administrative assistants, and custodians. It’s also for anyone who leads, loves, and supports them. If you have a kid, work with a kid, or love a kid, you will find something inspiring in these pages, possibly even game-changing.

Every teacher should read this book

I am a teacher and in the district I teach in we are learning about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE's). This book helped me to understand ACE's on a deeper level and to understand the importance of our role as teachers and how much of an impact we can have. This book is not about ACE's, it's about connections and how important they are with the students who come through our door. We may know our students well, or at least we think we do, but how much do we really know about what is happening in their world? Connections with students can make a huge impact with all our students from the most engaged to the most vulnerable. Connecting with every students is what our 21st Century learners need more than anything. I highly recommend this book. Thank you Jody for you words of wisdom and for being so honest and real.

Was pleasantly surprised at the information I learned

It's not really about kids, it's about us adults and how we can connect better with kids and help them make connections. Really loved listening to the author who was both funny and super informative. I recommend highly for coaches of sports, educators and leaders in business.

Friggin’ Amazing Book

This book is wonderfully written. The author carefully explores the impact of trauma on the classroom, effective strategies to help, and wraps it up with self care strategies to prevent classroom burnout!

EVERYONE NEEDS THIS BOOK!

Seriously, this woman knows what she is talking about. I love the way she lays it all out for the reader (and listener - I highly recommend listening so you can hear Dr. Carrington's passion behind her purpose) - easy to understand with SO MUCH information that transforms the way we look at children. I have been recommending this book to every parent and educator I know.

Every educator and parent alike should have this book in their “toolbox!” It was incredible and gave so much insight into the deep need for society to (re)connect!

Awesome read

Great book for educators and administrators alike. Connection before direction. Focusing on what the main thing should be in education.
